1 · About the project
Maison Béthune stitches by hand. Saddle stitch, two needles, waxed linen thread, edges dyed and burnished with a hot iron. Repairable pieces, held in a register: every bag carries a number, and the number points to a line written on the day it was sewn.
Making was never the problem. The surface was. To be read as a luxury house, the brand had enlarged its monogram, placed it at the centre of the flap and hot stamped it in gold. That gesture tips an object from use toward status: it is no longer judged on its construction but on its signature, and it enters a comparison Béthune cannot win.
2 · The process
The repositioning came down to one removal: take the signature off the surface of the leather. What stays visible then becomes what time corrects, the stitching, the edge, the patina.

Design note
Kilvern · Art direction
“I ruled out gold before drawing anything. A gold stamp reads from across a room, and what reads from across a room ends up replacing the object. Debossed, the mark needs an angle of light to exist: it belongs to whoever is holding the piece. The competitor was never another leather house, it was the visible logo.”
